Today is the last day in the Colours section of the 31 Day challenge, and today’s theme is gradient nails! And I have a glittery, sparkly gradient to share with you 😀
First of all, I tried to clean up. Really, I did. But you know how glitter is! It just wouldn’t budge. It also didn’t seem to photograph all that well, but just look at the sparkliness!
I used 3 different polishes from the Sally Hansen Gem Crush range for this: Blingtastic (the blue), Bejeweled (the purple), and Lady Luck (the red). I applied them using a makeup sponge to get the gradient. I didn’t use a top coat because I quite liked the raw sparkliness of it, and although they are not meant as textured polishes, between the dense glitter and the sponging method it had a slight texture to it which I just thought brought out the sparkle even more.
I do have to say something about these polishes though. Now, I am not sure if it was just a combination of my sponging method and having no top coat, or if this polish just doesn’t like me personally, or if everyone has these problems with it, but it chipped worse than any other polish I have ever worn. And when I say it chipped, I don’t mean a few small chips at the tip; I mean half a nail worth of polish coming off all at once. I wore this for 2 days because even though it was chipping after the first day, I didn’t get a chance to change it. At the end of the second day, I was just sitting chatting with some friends when I looked down and saw that an ENTIRE nail-worth of poilsh had just come off, from a previously undamaged nail, and the whole layer of polish was lying in my hand. Just to be clear – I didn’t use a peel-off base coat or anything like that, I used my usual base coat (Which is by Tip Top nails).
Nonetheless, I will still use these polishes again just because they are so pretty. This last picture features a super weird hand pose and it’s out of focus, but just LOOK at the sparkles!
Whew, 10 days down, 21 to go! Tomorrow is the first pattern day and it starts off with polka dots 🙂
Don’t forget to see what other gradients are on display today:
