Nails inspired by an artwork opens up a world of opportunity for very complex and beautiful nail art. Unfortunately, while I am enjoying this challenge, posting to a specific theme every day takes a lot of time and I had to pick something that would be quick to do last-minute on my nails! Luckily I found a pretty cool artwork to use 🙂
I paged through an art book I have, World Art: the essential illustrated history, and came upon Jazz (1947), a painting by Henri Matisse. I immediately new it was the best choice for today! Here’s how the painting looks (Sorry for the light shining off the glossy page!)
I went for more rounded and soft star shapes on my index, middle and pinkie fingers, compared to his angular ones, and I recreated the silhouette over my thumb and ring finger.
I started with 2 coats of Sinful Colors – Neptune. I used Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear – White On and Essence Colour & Go – Wanna be your sunshine for the stars, and Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear – Black Out and Charlie Revlon – Lady in Red for the silhouette.
Not my favourite look ever, but I think it was a fair recreation. Tomorrow’s prompt is inspired by a flag, and my nails will be inspired by the flag of my home country, South Africa! Only a few days left, and although it’s fun, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I can’t wait to complete the challenge!
