It’s day 12 of the Nail Art A-Go-Go Challenge hosted by Gnarly Gnails and today’s theme is camouflage. I decided to try a technique I’ve seen done before but never tried myself: water spotting.
I started off with 2 coats of Catrice Mint Me Up and waited for it to dry. Meanwhile, I picked out 3 other colours which I thought would combine to make good camouflage – Essence Walk on the Wild Side, NYX Matte Chocolate, and Sinful Colors Kaki.
I then got to the water spotting. At first, I thought it would be most effective to add all of the colours to the water as one would with a water marble, and spray it with hairspray. My hairspray didn’t work that well, so I switched to heat protectant spray, which worked a little better. However, I soon realised I wasn’t getting all of the colours with this method, so I switched to doing one colour at a time – dropping it in the water, spraying, dipping my nail, and then doing the next colour. Given that the name of the technique is ‘water spotting’, I was expecting a more spotted effect, but instead ended up with random lines of polish – but that worked too! Luckily, this method is intended to look random, just like camouflage is. I enjoyed testing out this technique for the first time. What do you think? 🙂
