Nail Art A-Go-Go Challenge Day 2: Jewel Toned

Hi everyone!

It’s day 2 of the Nail Art A-Go-Go challenge hosted by Gnarly Gnails and today’s theme is jewel-toned. I’m sure we’ll be seeing lots of emerald greens, ruby reds, and sapphire blues – I anticipate Essie’s Lots of Lux has been put to good use by someone – but I decided to take inspiration from some beautiful gemstones I actually saw recently to create this: nails-gradient-catrice-genius-in-a-bottle-sinful-colors-out-the-this-world-sally-hansen-lustre-shine-scarab-sinful-colors-opal-glitterDuring our trip to Namibia, we visited the Crystal Gallery in Swakopmund. Most of the things we did during our trip were outdoors, and hot but beautiful, but walking around the Crystal Gallery was spectacular as well. Even though I’m trained as a geologist I saw some things I’ve never seen before and it was really beautiful. One of the most beautiful stones I saw was multicoloured tourmaline. multicoloured-tourmalineI know that’s not a great picture (There was glass in the way!) but you can get the idea. Changing amounts of trace elements within the gemstones cause changing colours. They are really beautiful. I decided to represent this on my nails by using a gradient. nails-gradient-catrice-genius-in-a-bottle-sinful-colors-out-the-this-world-sally-hansen-lustre-shine-scarab-sinful-colors-opal-glitterI started with a base coat of Catrice Genius in the Bottle. This is already a blue-gold duochrome, but I then created a gradient of it along with Sinful Colors Out of This World and Sally Hansen Lustre Shine Scarab. I decided to make it a little more jewel-y by adding two coats of Sinful Colors Opal Glitter, even though the tourmaline didn’t have this kind of scattered sparkle. nails-gradient-catrice-genius-in-a-bottle-sinful-colors-out-the-this-world-sally-hansen-lustre-shine-scarab-sinful-colors-opal-glitterA gradient is a pretty simple type of nail art, but I think it looks beautiful and I hope I brought across the jewel tones. nails-gradient-catrice-genius-in-a-bottle-sinful-colors-out-the-this-world-sally-hansen-lustre-shine-scarab-sinful-colors-opal-glitterHere are the remaining themes for the challenge:
