It’s day one of the Nail Art A-Go-Go challenge hosted by Gnarly Gnails. Today’s theme is achromatic, and I am sure there will be a ton of amazing work done by the other ladies taking part in the challenge!
As I was brainstorming for ideas for this challenge, my boyfriend saw the blocky image I wanted to use and said it reminded him of a chess board. The next moment, I was checking through all my stamping plates to see if there were any chess piece images 🙂For my base colours I used Sinful Colors Black on Black on my ring finger and Snow me White on all my other fingers. I then stamped using Essence stampy polishes and Moyou Artist Collection 03 on my thumb, index finger, and pinkie. My middle and ring fingers were a bit more of a challenge. Only while doing this did I realise that I have very rarely used a stamp that wasn’t a full-nail image. I thought it would be easy since I didn’t have to worry about reaching the edges of my nails, but it turns out, positioning the stamp is TOUGH. On my middle finger I was going to use BM-215 for the queen but I gave up and freehanded it with a dotting tool. I was determined to use the king from BM-320 on my ring finger, though, and it was a battle. I restamped it at least a dozen times trying to get it straight, until in the end I got too frustrated and just went with a semi-okay-FAR-from-perfect one. Despite the king fiasco (and the black polish looking a bit funny after all the stamp removals!) I really liked these nails. I think chess nails were perfect for the achromatic theme 🙂
Below are the rest of the themes for the month. Tomorrow’s theme is jewel toned, so I’m sure we’ll be seeing lots of GORGEOUS polishes!Take a look at the nails done by the other lovely ladies taking part in this challenge at the links below:
