May Tri-Polish Challenge Part 1: Leadlight Stamping

Hi everyone!

This month, the colours for the Tri-polish challenge are red, green and purple. I decided it was a good opportunity to finally try out a technique I’ve been seeing a lot of lately: leadlight stamping.

As far as I know, this technique was pioneered by Messy Mansion, who even brought out a whole range of polishes especially for it. The idea is that you stamp over a light background, then fill in the image with very sheer jelly polishes so that you can still see the stamping through them. tri-polish-challenge-may-stamping-leadlight-moyou-suki-collection-07-sinful-colros-hey-you!-sally-hansen-good-to-grape-charlie-revlon-lady-in-red-essence-absolutely-pure

I’ve seen some examples which look really amazing, but I think this isn’t bad for a first try. Over a background of Sinful Colors Snow Me White, I stamped with parts of the image from Moyou Suki Collection 07 and a stamping polish from the Born Pretty Store. tri-polish-challenge-may-stamping-leadlight-moyou-suki-collection-07-sinful-colros-hey-you!-sally-hansen-good-to-grape-charlie-revlon-lady-in-red-essence-absolutely-pureI don’t have a lot of jelly polishes, so I decided to create my own. I used a few drops of Essence Absolute Pure, a completely clear polish, and mixed it separately with a small drop of each Charlie Revlon Lady in Red, Sinful Colors Hey, You!, and Sally Hansen Good to Grape. I then used each of these along with a small nail art brush to fill in the images. tri-polish-challenge-may-stamping-leadlight-moyou-suki-collection-07-sinful-colros-hey-you!-sally-hansen-good-to-grape-charlie-revlon-lady-in-red-essence-absolutely-pureEven though they’re not perfect, I am very happy with the result. My boyfriend even asked me if I’d used stickers! tri-polish-challenge-may-stamping-leadlight-moyou-suki-collection-07-sinful-colros-hey-you!-sally-hansen-good-to-grape-charlie-revlon-lady-in-red-essence-absolutely-pureI really loved my makeshift jelly polishes. I wish I could have a mini bottle of a jelly version of all my polishes 🙂tri-polish-challenge-may-stamping-leadlight-moyou-suki-collection-07-sinful-colros-hey-you!-sally-hansen-good-to-grape-charlie-revlon-lady-in-red-essence-absolutely-pure

What do you think of my first attempt at leadlight stamping?

GREAT job with the lead lighting!!! It looks phenomenal.

Thanks!! I am so keen to try it again but I don’t seem to have all that many images that it’ll work well with, grr!

I’m impressed! Love the colors, and I think you did a good job!

    • paintedfingertips

Thank you! I’m glad you liked it 🙂

  • Dani FromPolishwithLove

This is beautiful!! I’ve been wanting to try leadlighting but I need to get better at stamping first, hahaha! I never thought to add clear polish to make my own jelly! Like you, I don’t own many!!

    • paintedfingertips

Thanks so much! You should just try it! You can use the colours to cover any imperfect stamping, hehe 🙂 I’m just sad that I don’t seem to have that many images that’ll work well with this technique, because I loved it! I’ve seen a few other people making jellies with clear polish too, so I had to try it, and I loved how well it worked. I might just need to stock up on clear polish 🙂

Making your own “Jelly” polish was a genius idea! <3 And I love the pattern you picked out to work with.

I think I might wind up skipping out on most of the tri polish challenges this month just because i can't think of what to do with the colors that will actually look good!

    • paintedfingertips

Thanks so much! I think it’s the only way I’ll get enough ‘jellies’ to be able to do things like this!

That’s half the challenge though! I’m pretty stuck on what to do for the rest as well, it’s one of the reasons I enjoy the challenge 🙂

  • Allison

Wow, this is really beautiful! High five for thinking of making your own jelly polishes; I would have never thought is that! You did a great job with this challenge, really impressive especially for a first attempt!

    • paintedfingertips

Thank you! You should definitely try it, it’s the only way to have enough jellies 🙂
