Today’s theme in the 31 Day Challenge is ‘Inspired by a Song’. This isn’t really one of my favourite themes as I don’t think most songs can be represented very well by a picture so I have trouble deciding on my inspiration. I decided to take an easy way out (though not an easy technique) and chose Bon Jovi’s Bed of Roses for my inspiration. I’ve done quite a few rose designs in the past, including vintage roses, roses and stripes, vintage roses over pinstripes, textured roses over a gradient, and gold roses over stripes. When I think rose nails I usually think of the type I’ve done with textured polish, but I knew it was time to try something new for this one.
I started with a base of Depend Magnetic #6005. I didn’t use its magnetic properties but it was the only polish I had close to what I wanted for a base. All the rest has been done with acrylic paints. Although I’ve done purple one-stroke flowers and black and white one-stroke flowers before, I’ve never attempted one-stroke roses so I looked at a few tutorials to get an idea of what to do. The main one I used was this one by Elena Milvanova, but I also found this one by YummyNails and this post by NailMove to be helpful. I am very happy with these for a first attempt at one-stroke roses! There is a lot of room for improvement as these don’t have much depth and I’m not sure if you’d know they were roses if I hadn’t told you, but I am very happy with them and only practice can help me improve.
Last year I was inspired by U2’s Beautiful Day, and did a gradient with some flower stickers. What do you think of my one-stroke roses? Here are the remaining themes for the challenge:Take a look at some more nails inspired by songs at the link:
