Today’s theme for the 31 Day Challenge is animal print. I’m not the biggest fan of the more traditional prints like leopard print, so I knew I had to do something a bit different for today. I decided to go with a poison frog print. I looked up some pictures of poison frogs and came across one kind which looked exactly like water spotting! It was red with black patterns so that’s what I decided to reproduce on my nails. I started with a base of Revolution Rainbow in Zeus. Once it was dry, I did the water spotting using Sinful Colors Black on Black. I tried water spotting once before, and while I liked the effect, I couldn’t really get a spotted effect. On that occasion I dripped the polish onto the water and then sprayed in some hairspray. I knew I wanted to get a more spotted look this time, so I followed this method used by NailsbyLins. After dripping the polish into the water, I used a toothbrush to spray acetone onto the surface. I got a much more spotted look 🙂The frog this was based on was a brighter, more orange-red, but I decided to add some interest with the glittery red base. Other than that this looked just like the frog! Success!
Last year I did some non-traditionally coloured leopard print:
