Hi everyone!
I know, I know, Valentine’s Day is long gone, but I have finally managed to get this post done. And hey, who’s to say you can’t be anti-Valentine’s any day of the year? In case you missed it, the other day I showed my top 5 Valentine’s Day polishes. Today’s post is just the opposite – the perfect polish to wear if, for whatever reason, you don’t want to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The first one is pretty much the quintessential anti-Valentine’s polish: Black Heart, Don’t Care by Renaissance Cosmetics. It’s literally made as an anti-Valentine’s polish. It has so much going on, and it all comes together beautifully. It’s a white crelly base packed with silver holo squares, pink dots, pink shards, and of course the black hearts. It took 3 coats to reach full coverage with this beauty.
The polish comes out of the bottle packed with dots, shards, and squares, but you do have to fish a bit to get the black hearts out. A truly gorgeous creation. I won this polish quite some time ago in a giveaway by Renaissance Cosmetics.
My second pick is OPI Emotions. This is a black textured polish. This is 2 coats. I have a mini bottle of this, which makes application a little annoying, but I didn’t have any major problems.
This one really is blackest black and the rough texture made it even better for an anti-valentine’s polish!
My third pick is Sally Hansen Blizzard Blue – this polish really is cold as ice! It’s also very sheer, so it took me 4 coats to get here and there was still some visible nail line at certain angles. It could be used to make a similar base icier. In the past I’ve even used the sheerness to my advantage by using it in a water marble when I wanted the polish below the marble to show through.
Unfortunately, I did get some bubbling with this polish. It could probably be avoided with more careful application – I was in a bit of a hurry – but it is clearly prone to bubbling.
My fourth pick is another offering from Sally Hansen – Loves Me Not. The name alone already made this one a perfect pick, but the gorgeous vampy polish cinched its place in this list. I’ve always loved polish shades like this one, long before I got into polish. It is a very dark, deep purple base absolutely packed with slightly lighter purple shimmer. It’s stunning!
This was 2 coats of Loves Me Not. I found the shimmer particularly interesting because when looking at the bottle, the shimmer appears golden around the curves of the bottle – almost as if it has a duochrome quality. This didn’t translate onto the nails, though – not that it needs it.
My final pick might just be my favourite of the whole lot – Love Thy Polish Zombie Brains. I won this in a giveaway ages ago, and every time I put it on my nails I love it more. It’s a light grey base with dark grey specks, small white circle glitters and 2 sizes of larger magenta circle glitters. Application is very easy although it helps if you position the magenta glitters a bit. The base is a little sheer, so this took 3 coats.
If you’re wondering why this polish made the list, it’s because zombies only love you for your brains!
What do you think? Which is your favourite of these?
