Happy Valentine’s Day!
I’m only just making it in time with today’s post, but I have swatched my 5 best Valentine’s Day polishes from my collection. If you’re anti-Valentine’s Day, don’t worry – I’m aiming to show you a few good anti-Valentine’s polishes tomorrow.
My first perfect Valentine’s Day polish is Revlon Girly. Girly is a sheer pink base packed with purple, pink, and magenta small and large hex glitters. The glitter payoff is excellent and normal application gets you plenty of glitter on your nails. The only drawback is how sheer the base is – the sheer base is needed to allow the glitters to shine through, but it took me 4 coats to get this look. That also makes the glitter get pretty thick, so in general I’d recommend layering this over a similarly coloured base polish. I think it’s pretty clear why I’d choose this as a Valentine’s polish – it’s pink, it’s glittery, and it makes me think of cupcakes and cuddles.
My second choice is another pink one. This is 3 coats of Renaissance Cosmetics Love… Everyday. I was sent this polish after winning a giveaway by Renaissance Cosmetics. It’s a lovely pink base with a gold shimmer, and small gold and purple glitters. I suspect with a full size bottle, the easier application would allow you to manage with 2 coats. This polish was a part of a Valentine’s collection by Renaissance Cosmetics, but is intended to be able to be worn for every occasion. I really like the name of this polish – I’m happy to express my love on Valentine’s Day, but I’d rather express it every day. Again, it should be easy to see why this is good for Valentine’s Day – it’s the perfect shade of pink, and it’s not just pink but a lovely mix of pink, gold, and purple. Of course, where would we be on Valentine’s Day without something red? This is 2 coats of Essence Me & My Lover. Of course, the name is very appropriate as well. This polish is really perfect for the occasion – it’s not just red; it’s a textured red and it is chock-full of gorgeous golden shimmer. Golden shimmer often looks weird against my skin tone, but the red base contained it very well and it looked stunning. This is a perfect gorgeous sexy red, and if you’re a follower you know by now I still love my textures! My fourth pick is another red, although a bit of a more purple-toned one. This is Sally Hansen Lady Luck from their Gem Crush collection. It’s a full-coverage glitter polish, and getting this coverage took just 2 coats. It’s a lovely dark red glitter filled with larger holographic glitters. It’s not a textured polish, but it does dry to a rough finish due to all the glitters. I’ve shown it here without top coat but if you prefer your polish smooth, it would look incredible with top coat as well. I don’t think luck has a whole lot to do with your Valentine, but this polish is just so gorgeous and the colour is perfect for Valentine’s nails. My final pick is Sinful Colors Unwrap Me. Shown here is 2 coats of Unwrap Me over a base of Tip Top Gold Digger. Unwrap Me is a mix of large red hex glitters with slightly smaller black hex glitters and black specks in a clear base. The glitter payoff is great – I did apply my 2 coats carefully, but didn’t need to do anything special to get it looking fantastic. With a name like Unwrap Me, I just had to pick this polish, but I also love the combination of red and black. I’ve always liked red and black together, and with the red at least being a traditional Valentine’s Day colour, this is another perfect polish for today!
Which of these polishes would you pick to wear today?
