Painted Fingertips | Full-nail water decals from the Born Pretty Store

Hi everyone!

Today I have another Born Pretty Store product review to share with you. The Born Pretty store is a huge online store with just about every nail art item you can imagine available. Today I have one of their full-nail water decals to show you. Painted Fingertips | Full-nail water decals from the Born Pretty StoreThis is pattern #190 of their Fantasy Colourful Flower Print decals. I love the colours and the details of the pattern! This product comes as a single rectangular sheet with the pattern on it. You cut out the right size for each nail, dip it in water for about 30 seconds, then slide the decal off the backing and apply it to the nail. I finished off with a top coat to keep the decals in place. Painted Fingertips | Full-nail water decals from the Born Pretty StoreI’ve decided to share my thoughts on this product with a few pros and cons:

  • The gorgeous pattern and colours!
  • It’s very quick nail art and you wouldn’t be able to create a pattern like this any other way.
  • Water decals can be repositioned more easily than stickers – just wet your nail before applying and then you can slide the decal around until it’s in place. Once you’re happy with the positioning, dab away excess water with a piece of paper towel.

  • The sheet of decals was smaller than I was expecting and I think it’d be tough to get a full manicure out of it (especially if you have longer nails). I chose my favourite parts of the sheet for each nail and only had enough for a couple of nails left. If you used it more economically, you might be able to get a full mani out of it, but I’m not so sure. You’d likely have to order 2 sheets or just do accent nails.
  • The code number of the product is right in the middle of the decal sheet! That really annoyed me as it restricted the ways I could cut out the pattern. The code should be moved to the edge of the sheet!
  • I always struggle to cut products like this to the right size for my nails. This is an issue I have with all kinds of nail wraps and decals, not specific to these.

A few final notes on the decals – they did wrinkle slightly as I applied them, but I gently smoothed them out and got rid of most wrinkles. I also expected them to be more opaque than they were. Only as I slid them off the white backing did I see they were a little translucent. I still liked the way they looked on the nail, but you could use a white base to make the colours pop more. Painted Fingertips | Full-nail water decals from the Born Pretty StoreThere are a lot of other great patterns available in these decals on the Born Pretty Store website! If you decide to make a purchase, you can use the code KGG10 for 10% off.

Have you tried full-nail water decals before? What did you think of them?

  • Jessica W

I love the way these look! Thanks for breaking down the pros & cons – having that code in the middle of the sheet would annoy the heck out of me too!

    • Painted Fingertips

Yeah I guess they just didn’t think properly when designing it! At least it’s a great pattern though!

  • Dani FromPolishwithLove

These are really neat!! I especially love the index finger!!! Thanks for listing the pros and cons, I hate that code there in the middle and it’s a bummer they don’t make the sheets bigger!

    • Painted Fingertips

Yeah I really love the pattern on them but they should just be a little bigger and move the code and then I’d be 100% happy!

  • Color Me So Crazy

These are so fun! They must get work on me since my nails are so small 🙂 Maybe the printing was off, but that stinks with the numbers in the middle

    • Painted Fingertips

I had another look on the site – all the decals show the code in the centre of the sheet. I guess they just didn’t think it through or expect you to cut from either side and not in random places from the middle like I was trying to. If your nails are small and you cut from the sides without picking out your fave parts then you should get a full manicure out of it so go ahead and try them 🙂

  • The Nail Smith (Millie)

Wow, really good to know about those cons! I just started reviewing for BPS and this (or one of the similar psychedelic patterns) was one of the products I chose to review. Nonetheless, I think they’re really pretty! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts!

    • Painted Fingertips

I love the pattern too which is why I chose them!

  • Vic

It’s a gorgeous design but I seen another major con – water! I’d end up with it all over the table, all over the floor and all over me.

    • Painted Fingertips

Haha! Considering we normally work with polish, glitter, paint, etc. the water was the last thing I’d worry about messing! 😀 I actually find water decals pretty easy to use in that respect.

  • Nicole C. (Doctor Crafty)

What a fun psychedelic design! But you have to cut out the nail shapes yourself? I feel like I’d mess up so much! Great review – I like how you gave a fair review with both pros and cons!

    • Painted Fingertips

It’s cool huh? Yes, but that’s a problem with all full nail decals, wraps, etc. Even when they supply them in pre-cut shapes you often have to trim because the sizes aren’t the exact size of your nails, or the shape supplied doesn’t quite fit your cuticle line.

  • ThatGalJenna

Well even with all the cons I think this looks fabulous on you! I’ve never had the patience for things like water decals…or nail art…or pretty much anything :p These look really really lovely though!

    • Painted Fingertips

Thanks! That’s what’s cool about decals, it’s pretty much instant nail art. Especially if you use smaller decals which aren’t meant to cover the full nail – you polish, plonk the decal on, and done with nails that look amazing 🙂

  • Hey, Darling Polish!

These are so cool looking! I’ve never tried using decals before but it’s nice to see that you were able to make them work even with all of the cons. Great manicure!

    • Painted Fingertips

You should try some for sure!

  • Deborah – Love Varnish

While the design is pretty, I can’t bring up the patience to work with decals like these.

    • Painted Fingertips

It’s the first time I’ve tried full-nail decals because I just loved the design. Usually I’m not a fan of full-nail decals/stickers/anything I have to cut to my nail size though!

  • Roselynn787

Oh wow you did a fantastic job with the placement of the decals, I thought it was your own work for a second. Personally, I love decals for quick day manis. It’s a shame they don’t end up lasting longer on me.

    • Painted Fingertips

Thanks! That’s too bad yes – do you use a top coat over them?

  • Lothwen Akira

They’re very cool! Too bad they’re so small..

    • Painted Fingertips

If they could just make the sheet like 3 cm longer I’d be happy!

  • Lustrous Lacquer

I’ve never tried a full nail water decal before but these look pretty cool!

    • Painted Fingertips

      I just loved the pattern!

  • Siobhan

I really do love the pattern though! It is stunning!!
Code in the middle of a decal, small or big, is a pain! I’m sorry but that’s a no no

    • Painted Fingertips

      Me too!
Yes I don’t know what they were thinking with that. At least they were still usable though 🙂

  • Katherine

Ohhhhh these are lovely! I hear you about cutting full nail size decals though, I find it really difficult to get them to the right size. :/

    • Painted Fingertips

Glad to hear it’s not just me who can’t cut straight, haha 🙂

  • craftynail

i would think it’s hard to cut the right size so i’ve never tried this kind before. cute though!
