Swirly Nimbus

Painted Fingertips | Swirly nimbus

Hi everyone!

I was struggling to think of a good idea for some nail art so I decided to turn to my Pinterest inspiration board and found this fun nimbus look topped with stamped swirls by Globe & Nail. I decided I’d do something similar but I wanted to freehand the swirls rather than stamping them. The thicker lines resulted in quite a different look but I like it!  Painted Fingertips | Swirly nimbusI started off with a nimbus base (applying dots of polish watered down with acetone, using an earbud). For the base, I used Tip Top Fairy Dust, Tip Top Melting Marshmallows, Sinful Colors Amethyst, and Sally Hansen Bejeweled. I then used white acrylic paint and a small brush to paint on the swirls. I added a coat of Essence Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch over all my nails to make the white a little less harsh. This is an extremely sheer pastel purple polish so it’s not very visible, but it did tone down the white a little. To finish it off, I added a coat of Sinful Colors Opal Glitter on my ring finger. Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch is scented so I couldn’t stop sniffing my nails! The main thing though is how they look and luckily I was happy with that too 🙂

Me too! When I’m stamping, too, I realise I keep looking at all my swirly images the most 🙂

This is gorgeous! I love how doing the freehand nimbus design gives it some character and whimsy that you just don’t get with a stamp. I think that perhaps I could attempt something like this (although it definitely wouldn’t look as nice as yours!).

Thank you! Yes it’s great that with freehand you can change the design slightly on each nail which gives it a different look than stamping. You should definitely try it! 🙂

You suck. Honestly, I would give my freedom for your skills with a brush. I LOVE this! I love the combination of polishes and most of all I love your freehand swirls. <3

Hahaha! I so want a better brush though. The one I have at the moment is really not great. And I say, don’t give your freedom, just practice and you’ll do it! 🙂
