A while ago I was thinking about what nail art I’d like to do when an idea for an experiment hit me. A year or so ago I bought a liquid eyeliner thinking it was supposed to be better than the normal pencils but try as I might, I just couldn’t get it to work for me. It’s been sitting at the back of my cupboard – until now! I decided if I couldn’t get it to work on my eyes, maybe it could work on my nails! I was inspired by this post on The Dalai Lama’s Nails and decided to try my recreation using the eyeliner rather than polish or acrylic paint for the freehand work. I am by no means the first person to think of this but it’s the first time I’ve tried it!
I started with a base of Tip Top Chiffon Squares then got to work with the eyeliner. Working with it was very different than using paint. The first thing I noticed was that you couldn’t drag the applicator like you would a brush with paint as that would make the eyeliner pull away from where you dragged it and only pool where you lifted it up. I hope that makes sense, but basically, it had to be applied with a dabbing rather than a brushing motion. I also noticed the colour started appearing less black and more grey after a while (see my pinkie vs my thumb) but that was fixed by giving the eyeliner a good shake.
On the good side, I got decent lines for my first try with this and I love the applicator! It is easy to work with and definitely something I’ll try again. I also really liked that this gave an absolutely smooth finish on the nail. Acrylic paint leaves a slight texture behind due to the thickness of the paint, but this doesn’t. So if you like smooth nails, this is definitely something to look into!
What do you think? Would you try eyeliner on your nails?
