Snowflake Nail Art (and How I Survived an Attack!)

Painted Fingertips | Freehand snowflake nail art

Hi everyone!

Winter is officially here and with it has come the snow! It snowed properly for the first time on Thanksgiving. It was very exciting for me as it’s the first time I’ve seen proper snow – everything looks magical and the snow is a lot of fun. Luckily I had some snowflake nails ready to show you! I did these nails almost 2 weeks ago already, ready for when the snow came. Painted Fingertips | Freehand snowflake nail art

I started off with a four-shade gradient using Tip Top Turbulence, and Sinful Colors Endless Blue, Fly Away, and Snow Me White. I used a makeup sponge to blend the 4 shades in a gradient and went over it a few times until I got it looking nice and smooth. Painted Fingertips | Freehand snowflake nail art

On top of this, I used white acrylic paint and my fine nail art brush to freehand some snowflakes. I ended it off with a few little snowy dots. Painted Fingertips | Freehand snowflake nail art

Aren’t these great? I had so much fun doing them and I just loved the outcome.

Now for the part you’ve been waiting for – how I survived an attack! The day after I did these, my husband and I were attacked close to our home. He had walked with me back from the bus stop after my day’s classes. As he went to open the building’s door, someone grabbed him from behind. We had our hoods up and hadn’t realised anyone was around us – they must have followed us around the building. A second person grabbed me and shoved me down the stairs. Luckily, my hero-husband didn’t just go down easy. Although he stumbled he was able to get back up. Both attackers got up to focus on him so I could get up too. Attacker no. 1 said Shoot and Hero-husband said Run! We ran for it and although they pursued briefly, they then turned and ran away. It was a terrifying experience but we got away ok – a black eye for my husband and a bruise or 2 for me – and mostly, just the shock of what happened.

Presumably their intention was to rob us – not that we had much to steal in any case. When we stood up I had expected them to demand our belongings, but they didn’t. I guess they expected us to just continue laying on the ground while they robbed us? Hero-husband had been carrying a bag with some groceries and guess what? When we came back to go inside, our soap was gone. That’s right, our soap. All we’d bought was milk and soap.

So why am I sharing this story? Because, of course, I wanted to share how my nails looked after the time. Of course this was the least of my worries, but 2 of my nails got broken when I got shoved to the ground. Painted Fingertips | Freehand snowflake nail art

This is a little reminder as well – Even if you live in a safe neighbourhood (we do), remember to be alert and look around you every now and again. I knew that at your door is a common place to be attacked but I guess that didn’t sink in until it happened! Remember to look around you when you get close to your door. We were lucky and grateful to get away ok. So be safe everyone – and enjoy the beautiful snow!

Oh my god Kerry I’m glad you’re ok! Wow welcome to the US! At least you’re nails were stunning. Love the snowflakes, really cute.

    • Painted Fingertips

Thank you! It was frightening but hopefully nothing like this happens again – at least we know to be more alert now.

  • Jessica W

Holy crap! I am so glad you are okay (save for the nails) but how scary of an experience! Your nails were looking so nice too! (Not that you should only be concerned about your nails, but you know what I mean!)

    • Painted Fingertips

Yeah, they’ve all been shortened down now! At least they’ll grow back 🙂

    • Painted Fingertips

Thanks! I’m glad too – luckily it was only a frightening experience and nothing worse.

  • Roselynn787

That is an insane story but I am so happy to hear it have a good ending with both of you being safe. I’m so sorry about your poor nails though, thankfully they will grow back! And in the meantime I am sure you are going to rock some pretty nubs.

    • Painted Fingertips

They were probably getting a bit long for me anyway 🙂

  • Deborah – Love Varnish

Those nails look gorgeous, but oh my what a scary story! So glad you are okay and only had some broken nails after this!

    • Painted Fingertips

Thank you! Yes, we were lucky for sure.

  • Lothwen Akira

Holy moly, I’m so glad you got away safe! I unfortunately know what it’s like; I’ve been mugged on a beautiful sunny day in my bike shed a few years ago by a guy with a knife (not that many guns here, thankfully). 6 Euros. I’m so glad you got away! Did you report it to the police? I hope they’ll catch the sobs…
Your nails, as always, are beautiful. Your freehanding is awesome! Many hugs <3

    • Painted Fingertips

Ugh how awful! We did report it – called them right away as we were so freaked out. They searched the area but didn’t find them…

  • Polished Hippy

I am so sorry this happened to you! What a dramatic way to ruin your mani >.< It was incredibly lucky that you and he were together. I hate to think what would have happened if there was only one of you.

    • Painted Fingertips

I know – I try not to think about that and just be grateful that we’re ok!

  • loveforlacquer

OMG! I am so glad you’re okay! How awful & scary!

    • Painted Fingertips

      Thanks! Me too!

  • Manases Andrea

I am so sorry about what happens to you too, it is terrifying what you wrote down. Don’t worry about the nails, they will grow back, the good thing that you and your husband are OK. As about your freehand nail art, well they are stunning! Get well, from the shock and have a great day and weekend!

    • Painted Fingertips

I know, I wasn’t worried about them but of course it was the thing to share on a blog about nails. I’m really grateful that we’re ok. Thanks!

  • Nichole C

holy shit I’m glad you’re ok. I hope he needed that soap.
