The nail polishes used in this post were provided for my honest review.
I am very excited to share with you the first half of the brand new Deadpool collection from Darling Diva Polish! If you’re following me on Snapchat, you might have already seen my first thoughts on these when I unpacked the box. For those of you who missed it – I was lucky enough to meet Carrie, the maker of Darling Diva Polish, in person a few weeks ago. When she offered to send me her upcoming collection I jumped at the chance. I have heard nothing but good things about this brand and they have such beautiful polishes!
This was my first experience with this brand and it did not disappoint. This collection consists of no less than 10 nail polishes. To keep my posts a manageable length since each polish needs several pictures I have split it into two parts. This first part will show the 5 holo polishes, while in the second half you will see some flakies and cremes. I’ve saved my personal favourite of the 5 holos for last, so make sure you make it to the end of the post!
Note: Just like the Deadpool movie was R-rated, so is this nail polish collection! Some of the polish names are dirty or contain swear words. All of them are guaranteed stunners!
First up, we have All the Dinosaurs Fear the T Rex. This is a rich fuchsia-toned holo. It is shown here in 3 thin coats with no top coat. 3 coats works best for this one and they are so worth it. The formula is excellent so the 3 coats go on quickly and easily. This is how it looked in my normal lighting setup with partially diffused light.
Although this is more pinky-purple than berry toned it does make me think of berries, and it’s a beauty.
Here I positioned my hand further from my lights in order to show a little more of that stunning holo effect. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get sunlight shots with any of these between work and a few overcast days, so I did the best I could. You can see some of the stunning holo and you’ll just have to trust me when I say that all 5 of these were spectacular in the sun!
These last two pictures were taken with the flash. They are less colour accurate than the earlier pictures, but you can see more of that stunning holo!
Next up, we have Francis.
Of course, this collection would not be complete without a polish inspired by the movie’s antagonist. This is a stunning deep teal holo. This one was my husband’s favourite of the entire collection and it was one of my favourites too. Seen here are 2 coats with no top coat. I found the formula on this one a little thicker than the others, but not in a problematic way. It went on easily and beautifully opaque.
Francis dried with a finish just a notch below full shine – almost a satin-like finish. Of course this is beautifully unique and you can wear it as is but I decided to try it with a top coat as well since I generally use top coat on any polish. Here is a top coat shot:
You can see the difference in shine with top coat. In real life I preferred it just a smidgen with top coat but in pictures I like it better without.
Here it is with the flash. Again, the earlier pictures show the colour best, but just look at that holo!
You can really see the holo effect coming out on my out-of-focus index finger here. Gorgeous! While I had this polish on the sun decided to peek out from behind the clouds for a while. I quickly tried to get some pictures in between working but I had to get really creative with my hand poses…
Isn’t it stunning??
Given the reputation of this type of shade, I was a little concerned that this one might stain my nails or skin during removal. I was pleasantly surprised – not even the slightest hint of staining, and I didn’t even see any colour on my skin even though I wasn’t particularly careful about removal.
Next up, we have Smells Like Old Lady Pants. This one is described as a grey holo and it’s what I would call a soft silver. What makes this polish unique compared to many other silver-grey holos out there is a blue shimmer. On the nails, the combination of the blue shimmer and grey base translates to a lovely lavender which comes off the sides of the nail when the light catches it right. Unfortunately I didn’t quite manage to capture this in my photos, but it is lovely.
This one was a little more sheer than the others and took 3 coats to reach opacity. Once again, a great formula and easy to work with. The softness of this shade makes me keep wanting to call it an angel-breath shade, but it packs a holo punch as well!
Here it is with my hand positioned further from the lights as I tried to capture the holo.
…and here it is with flash. I think you can see just the tiniest bit of the lavender pull I spoke about on my middle finger here, too.
Another winner! I happened to have this one on when I went to work one day earlier this week. The sun hit my nails while I was on the bus and my jaw dropped! Good thing I wasn’t driving!
Next up we have Sexy Motherfucker. The perfect Deadpool red! Shown here are two gorgeous coats. It’s a rich true red shade.
When I first tried this polish, I did get a little bit of bubbling. I know that I tend to apply thicker coats than a lot of people so I took a break and the next day I added a few drops of thinner before trying again. It then went on smoothly and perfectly. I did NOT think that the polish was too thick to begin with, I just tried the thinner because it has worked for me in the past. It might have just been me that was a little off and needed a break but in case it does happen, it’s an easy fix.
Again, I took a couple of flash pictures to show you that holo. The holo effect on this one is amazing! As with the others, the non-flash pictures are most colour accurate.
This is another flash picture which came out with odd tones over my skin but I wanted to show it to you because you can see the intensity of the red! Isn’t it gorgeous?
As I mentioned at the start of the post, I have saved my personal favourite of these 5 polishes for last. Here it comes…
This is What in the Ass? and it is incredible. I can’t gush about this polish enough. This was the one I put on first and I was completely blown away by the formula. This polish goes on so smoothly and easily, it practically applies itself. It is also very nearly a one-coat wonder. I added a second coat because I am taking close-up pictures of it but in general you could probably get away with just one. It is seriously opaque.
The holo effect was the strongest with this one of all 5. This is a ‘normal lighting’ picture and you can see some of the holo coming through. I could spot it even under my plain old kitchen light.
Since this was my first time reviewing holo polishes, it took a little trial and error, and I ended up re-swatching this one once I’d had a little more practice. I was just as blown away the second time I applied it. It’s unbelievable. The colour is incredibly rich and is an absolutely stunning royal purple.
Here it is with my hand positioned further from the lights. Are you convinced yet? It’s INCREDIBLE. I would honestly want this polish for that stunning colour even if the formula were awful; and I would buy it for the unbelievable formula alone. With this one you get BOTH.
So that was my favourite (even though I loved them all!) – which was yours? Which of these do you see yourself scooping up once they are released?
