31DC2016 Day 3: Yellow Sandwiched Freehand

Painted Fingertips | Yellow sandwiched freehand for the #31DC2016

Hi everyone!

Today’s theme for the 31 Day Challenge is yellow, a colour you probably know by now I don’t love wearing. I have the least yellow polish of any shade and was actually half surprised to realise that I had anything to use for this theme. Painted Fingertips | Yellow sandwiched freehand for the #31DC2016

The yellow polish I realised I could use was the OPI Color Paints shade Primarily Yellow. Since this is a sheer, jelly polish, I thought about what type of nail art I could use that in, and settled on a jelly sandwich. Of course, since I’ve challenged myself to use freehand throughout the challenge, that meant a freehand sandwich. Painted Fingertips | Yellow sandwiched freehand for the #31DC2016

I started with a base of OPI Silver Canvas Undercoat and then started freehanding the pattern, making it up as I went along, with white acrylic paint. I’d periodically add a coat of OPI Primarily Yellow and I did the pattern in a different order on different nails, so different parts of the pattern stand out. The effect isn’t quite as dramatic as I’d hoped, but you can see it, especially when comparing nails. Somehow, the pattern reminded me of something out of Star Trek. I’m glad I managed to get away with something respectable for the yellow theme! In previous years, I did some awful black and yellow blocks, and some very cute water marbled bees.

Very cute I think yellow day should be turquoise day!

Oh yes I agree! I’d have far more options for that one!

I love it but I’m a yellow fan so!
The design does indeed remind me of techno chips so I get the Star Trek feeling too.

I ended up being pretty OK with it but I just don’t love yellow on me.

This is such a cool technique! I really thought you had used various shades of acrylic paint on top before I saw your post. It looks so cool sandwiched and gives various depth and shades of yellow!

Thanks! I had thought it would be a little more dramatic but yes it’s still a cool technique 🙂
