Today I have a review of some patterned nail foils from Born Pretty Store to share with you. The foil comes rolled up in a small bottle, with about a metre-long strip of foil included. It is a pretty pattern and just look at the holographic effect!
Four different patterns are available, although I liked this one best. Before going on to the nail art, I must mention that I found the product listing quite misleading. The product name says that these are ‘decals’ and the background of the pattern appears white rather than see-through; the pattern is also shown to be vibrantly coloured. I suppose the colouring is intended to represent the holographic effect, but this is not quite what I was expecting.
For the nail art, I started with a base of Darling Diva The Huntress. I painted a coat of foil glue, let it dry, and then applied the foils. As you can see, they didn’t transfer perfectly, although most of the pattern transferred. I finished it off by protecting the foil with a top coat. Unfortunately, the foil didn’t show nearly as much of a holographic effect as before application – probably because of the top coat.
When I have used solid-colour nail foils in the past, I found that I was able to apply them over slightly tacky nail polish. Even if they didn’t cover the nail perfectly, at least some transferred. This was not the case with these – I couldn’t get them to work over plain polish at all. In the end I had to cave and buy some foil glue to use these.
Overall, these are easy enough to use if you have foil glue, but useless without. Also, I find the pattern less forgiving with gaps than soild foil. I feel like I would rather stamp to get a quick pattern than use these.
If you’d like to purchase these foils, they are available here, and remember to use the code KGG10 for 10% off!
