The Digital Dozen Does Art: Elspeth McLean’s Lotus Family of Three

Painted Fingertips | The Digital Dozen Does Art - Elsbeth McLean Lotus Family of Three

Hi everyone!

It’s Day 5 of The Digital Dozen Does Art! I made it – I’m posting later than usual, but it’s still Friday! I only found an artwork that I found inspiring and that I could figure out a good nail art composition for last night, so this one ended up a little more last-minute. I really loved this theme but I’m glad it’s over for now – as the saying goes, variety is the spice of life, and I’m now ready for some simple, quick nail art 🙂Painted Fingertips | The Digital Dozen Does Art - Elspeth McLean Lotus Family of ThreeFor today’s look, I was inspired by the work of Elspeth McLean. As I was trying to think of ideas for the final day of the theme, I remembered these dotted nails I did during last year’s 31 Day Challenge. They were inspired by the well-known dotted pebbles painted by Elspeth McLean. I thought it might be fun to do another dotted look, so I visited her website to see what she’d done and look for some inspiration. There, I discovered that the stones aren’t all she does! She has done several really beautiful artworks in a more traditional form, but sticking with the mandala-like dotting patterns. I scrolled through them looking for one that would work for nail art, until I came upon Lotus Family of Three. Perfect! Painted Fingertips | The Digital Dozen Does Art - Elspeth McLean Lotus Family of ThreeFor my nail art version, I started with a base of Sinful Colors Blue By You. The rest was done with acrylic paints. Even for dotting, I find that acrylic is easier to work with, largely because it doesn’t start drying and become stringy nearly as fast. I liked the colours and had a lot of fun creating these! Painted Fingertips | The Digital Dozen Does Art - Elspeth McLean Lotus Family of Three macroThis was such a pretty look to recreate! I think by the end of this week, it’s probably easy to tell that I like vibrant, colourful artworks. Painted Fingertips | The Digital Dozen Does Art - Elspeth McLean Lotus Family of ThreeIn case you missed any of them, this week I have already shared by recreation of Edvard Munch’s The Scream; a fun tree artwork called First Snow Fall by Megan Duncanson; a Lichtenstein-inspired pop art look; and a lovely flamingo next to a forest inspired by Ann Marie Bone’s Flamingo Falls. Not a part of this challenge, but in the past I’ve also done versions of van Gogh’s Starry Starry Night and Dali’s Persistence of Memory.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this challenge too! Don’t forget to take a look at the other day 5 manicures at these links:
