It’s day 3 of the Digital Dozen does art! I’ve really enjoyed this theme so far and I loved both of the nail art looks I’ve already shared with you. In case you missed them, I recreated Munch’s The Scream and a gorgeous vibrant tree artwork by Megan Duncanson.
Today I’ve moved away from freehand art for the first time this week (don’t worry, there’s more freehand coming later in the week!) to create a pop art look. I had some Lichtenstein-style pop art stamping images that I just had to use at some point this week! I started off with a base of a blue shimmery polish I made myself. At first I had intended to stamp on the dots, but a couple of test stamps showed me that I just couldn’t get the finely dotted stamping image I had to transfer consistently enough. I decided to use a dotting tool with some gold acrylic paint instead. I think it looked pretty cool even just with the dots! I took my time and was able to get them looking quite even 🙂Next, I added the stamping using Moyou Pro Collection 10. I wasn’t going for one specific overall artwork here, just getting that Lichtenstein look with his famous pop art lettering. At first I’d intended to make stamping decals with these – I stamped them onto my mat and coloured in the first POW, and it was only when I peeled it up that I realised my mistake… of course, when you create stamping decals the image gets flipped over, so I had a mirror image instead! Decals don’t work for text! Instead, I chose not to colour in the BANGs (I think that was for the best anyway, it allows more of the dotting to show through). I stamped the POWs and then carefully coloured them in using Sweet & Sour Lacquer Oh, Homie and Mmm… Donuts. It’s a fun look, isn’t it?
I still have to do one more nail art for this week, so hopefully I come up with an idea soon!
For now, take a look at the other art-inspired nails at these links:
