Review: Beauty Big Bang Chameleon Holo Nail Flakes

Some items in this post were provided for honest review

Hi everyone!

Have you heard of Beauty Big Bang? It’s a site for hair, makeup, and of course nail art goodies. I was recently approached by them to test out some of their products and of course I couldn’t say no!

Generally, you need to use gel polish to successfully apply these powders, which is usually something that really puts me off. Gel is just too much of a pain for me – I either have to use a peel-off base or struggle with gel removal, and I’m just not as comfortable with application as regular polish. But then… I recently saw this post on Cosmetic Sanctuary where Lisa shared her results applying powder over Yellow Stopper, which is a regular base coat available at Sally’s or online. Her nails looked perfect, so I decided to try it too.

Over a base of Sinful Colors Black on Black, I applied a coat of Yellow Stopper, waited until it was 95% dry, and then carefully applied the flakies. Just make sure that you don’t start applying the powder while the polish is still wet or you will end up with nothing but a mess!

I will say that my results with this powder looked a little different to the images on the website. While theirs show a uniform gold finish with strong holographic effect, I had more of a mirrored gold finish with specks of colour from the flakes, and a slight holographic effect. I really liked the look of the coloured flakes, so I was careful to dab the powder on rather than rubbing it too vigorously and breaking up all of the flakes. The powder was very opaque and needed just one layer to get this look!

I decided to try the powder with top coat as well. I still haven’t gotten around to purchasing a water-based top coat to use with products like this, so I’m interested in seeing how they look with a regular top coat.

Painted Fingertips | Beauty Big Bang gold chameleon holo nail flakes reviewAs you can see, the mirror effect is gone and we’re left with more of a bronzey distressed effect. I actually really like how this looks as well! It might not have the drama of the mirror effect, but I think it could make a great base for, say, some pirate-y nail art. I must say that I really enjoyed this one and I was very impressed with how vibrant the effect was as I applied it to my nails! I might just need some more of the colours available from Beauty Big Bang.
