It’s another 2 post day today as I’m trying to get all of the Polish Con exclusive and VIP shades I’ve been sent to swatch up in time. Today I have 3 shades from KBShimmer to share – 2 exclusives and one VIP. All of them are Minnesota themed with fun names and inspirations. Did you know that Christy grew up in Minnesota? I love that she was able to take from her own experiences living here to create these beautiful polishes. Let’s start off with the VIP shade, Purple Reign. Purple Reign is a royal purple holo with holo microflakies and a violet shimmer. This shade is inspired by both Prince and Minnesota’s football team, the Vikings, whose colour is also purple.
If you’ve followed Painted Fingertips for long, then you’ll know that I am a purple lover, so I was immediately keen to get this one on my nails. I really like the amount of holo in this purple and it’s just the right shade. This is definitely one to look forward to if you have a VIP ticket for Polish Con!
That macro just says it all – this is such a good shade of purple! Shown here are 2 coats with top coat. The formula on this polish was fantastic, and the opacity was really good. For a moment I even questioned whether I needed a second coat – under bright lights I did, but it’s almost opaque enough for a careful single coat.
And then you have the colours that come out of Gopher It! – looking at the bottle, I was expecting a warm, golden-orange holo. What I got instead is a polish with an incredible shift, from pink to warm shades of copper and gold. I could barely believe that a single polish could have both multichrome and holo effects this strong. Above you see some of the coppery colours dominating, while the macro below shows more of the pink holo base.
Just look at that copper shift on my ring finger! Stunning! Gopher It! is inspired by the University of Minnesota’s Golden Gophers and the university’s maroon and gold colours. Since I am currently a UMN graduate student, this one is a must-have for me based on the inspiration as well. Bonus holo shot for this one too: Last but not least, we have the second Polish Con exclusive, Ice Ice Fishing. I can’t even THINK the name of this polish without wanting to sing Ice Ice Baby! Of course, the inspiration for this polish is ice fishing. Winter gets really cold here in Minnesota, so lakes freeze over and some braver folks than I go ice fishing. I didn’t read the product description for this polish properly before I started swatching it, and I was confused for a second when it seemed lighter on my nails. It turned out to be a nice surprise once I realised it was a thermal polish! In the bottle, it appeared just a little darker than the warm shade, so it warmed up a little more on my nails when I applied it.
Ice Ice Fishing is an icy blue-white to deep midnight blue thermal, packed with blue shimmer and holographic glitters. The warm state of this polish was a little sheerer so I applied 3 thin coats with top coat. The formula was excellent so that was an easy 3 coats.
It was a warm day when I was swatching this, so I had a really hard time getting a shot of the cool state of this polish – in the end, all I could manage was a macro but that’s enough to see the deep blue shift. With the holo glitters, it’s like the winter night sky!
