Some items in this post were provided for my honest review.

Hi everyone!

It’s almost time for October’s Polish Pickup! This month, the shop will be open 5-8 October. Today I’m sharing a gorgeous grey polish that will be available from Northern Star polish.

Shards of the Heart is a stormy grey polish inspired by Miss Havisham from Dickens’ Great Expectations. It was inspired by the concept of a mourning bride who locked herself away as her surroundings crumble and decay.

I have read several Dickens books over the past couple of years but I haven’t gotten to Great Expectations yet (my favourite of those I have read so far was David Copperfield, which was apparently Charles Dickens’ own favourite as well). It’s definitely on my future reading list!

Shards of the Heart is a medium grey with blue flakies and a subtle holographic effect. The official description is a dark grey with lavender tint that looks like a creme indoors, but contains two types of holographic pigments that sparkle in the sun. Subtle indigo micro flakes complete the polish.

Here I am showing two coats of Shards of the Heart plus top coat. The formula was great and it applied easily.

This is a perfect thundercloud grey. Under lower light or at angles, the grey becomes moodier and the lavender pull shows more. Grey is such a versatile polish colour so I’m glad to have this one in my collection!
