It’s time for another Digital Dozen week! This week’s theme is books. There are so many wonderful options to choose from, although sometimes it can be hard to figure out what nail art to do to relate back to the book. For my first choice for the week, there was actually a pretty obvious nail art option. I decided to do some nail art inspired by Garth Nix’s Old Kingdom series – Sabriel, Lirael, Abhorsen, and the more recent additions Clariel and Goldenhand. These books were near the top of my list for this week, simply because the original trilogy were my favourite books as a teenager, and I still love them.
The Old Kingdom books include the concept of Charter magic, a type of magic that is contained within symbols. The charter symbols are perfect for nail art! I actually did a rather different nail art look inspired by the same concept back when I first started my blog, over 5 years ago.
To get this look, I started with a base of Sinful Colors Black on Black. I then applied a few loose multichrome green flakies to each nail. I dabbed them on using an eyeshadow applicator, but didn’t apply them over the whole nail – I wanted to get a more galaxy-esque look with the black base showing through in some places, and the flakes sparkling in others.
Aren’t those flakes gorgeous? Over the flakies, I painted some Charter symbols using white acrylic paint. I finished off the look with a matte top coat.
I was so happy with how this look came out! The flakies were perfect to make the symbols seem magical. This would have been great with different colour flakes, too!
Have you read any of Garth Nix’s books? Did you enjoy them?
