Can you believe it? Painted Fingertips is already 6 years old! This blog birthday really snuck up on me – I can’t believe it’s been so long already! Check out my previous birthday posts – 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 4 years, and 5 years – for plenty of gorgeous nail art through the years.
As is traditional on this blog, I’ll be sharing my top 10 nail art looks from the past year. If you’re just interested in seeing the nails, go ahead and scroll to the rest of the post to see them. If you’re interested in a bit of a life update, keep on reading!
A lot has happened over the past year. You may have noticed a lot of different things going on on the blog – over the past year, I had a lot more swatching opportunities than previously, including two gigantic projects – Polish Con Minneapolis, and January’s Polish Pickup. For Polish Con, I did separate posts for each brand, but you should be able to find them if you type ‘polish con’ into the search bar. Both of these were massive undertakings – it’s tough swatching dozens of polishes within a couple of weeks – but I’m really glad I had the opportunities! They exposed me to a lot of brands that I personally had not tried before and it was a lot of fun for me to share all of the gorgeous polishes with you. Although, I’ve just realised, I never did do a post after Polish Con to show you all of the pictures I took of the stalls and products on the day! I put a ton of effort into those pictures, I can’t believe I forgot to finish up the post. It was so long ago by now, would you still be interested in seeing them? Please let me know in the comments!
Things were off to a strong start with those two events, and then plenty of nail art and a handful more swatches over the next few months. That was until April hit – and suddenly there were crickets on the blog. I disappeared for a little over 3 months and only returned a month ago, in mid-July. After my long hiatus, I’ve been having a hard time finding my blogging rhythm again, but at least I have posted a few new nail art looks. When I returned, I mentioned that I’d been sick. I didn’t mention that it was morning sickness that had me down! I’m expecting a little boy this November, and I’m really looking forward to meeting him.
For the blog, this likely means that things will take a slower pace from now on. Aside from the fact that I’ll only get busier come November, I’ve also started getting more into some other hobbies, which makes it harder to get time for nails. I’m still playing my saxophone regularly, and I’ve been working on some cross stitch projects over the past year. I recently decided to try my hand at knitting as well. Basically, I’m trying to do far too many things! The good news is that I do have a few nail art looks lined up and I’m looking forward to sharing them with you. The bad news is that even though I feel sad about not posting more, I’ve taken a step back and realised that I just can’t cope with a heavier posting schedule any more. My plan is to share a post with you once every 1-2 weeks for the next while and see how that goes – maybe it’ll pick up again later on, maybe not. I’ve also decided that it’s time for me to leave the Digital Dozen. That was a tough decision since I have loved my time with the group and I was so honoured to be a part of it, but I just can’t commit to the required 5 posts in a single week any more. Aside from the 3 months I completely missed, over the past couple of months I’ve only gotten 3 to 4 looks done and I’ve ended up going into the following week to get posts up. That’s not really up to DD standards, so I’ve stepped back from the group. I hope that by going with a slower schedule, I’ll be able to get back into a good blogging rhythm and share plenty more nail art with you!
On to the nails! Between the extra swatching I did over the past year, and the long hiatus I took, I had a lot less nail art to choose from this year. Fortunately, I still had some pretty cool looks! Honestly, though, I think that the previous year and the one before that were stronger for Painted Fingertips nail art. It will be cool if I can create some extra-special looks in the coming year while posting a little less!
I’m going to share these in the order they were originally posted, so that I don’t have to try and rank them any other way. First up, from December last year, is this stamped rose look with a sponged holo base and holo rose stamping. The holo-on-holo look seemed to be a crowd pleaser, and I really like how the lightly sponged base makes it look extra holographic!
All of the rest of the looks were from 2019, starting with this coral floral nail art from January. I think that is because so much of the end of 2018 was taken up by Polish Con and PPU swatching! I really liked the colour scheme and happy, summery feel of this freehand look.
I had to include at least one water marble on the list! This one from January looks a little Christmassy and out of season right now, but I really liked the patterns it creatd.
Next up was a simple rose needle drag from February. This look was not particularly unique, but I really love the colour combination of the roses over the stunning base polish.
Next up is one of my absolute favourite looks from the past year. This was from February’s Digital Dozen week, with a textured theme. I decided to do a textured dotticure, with lots of colours and lots of overlapping dots. The result is a kaleidoscope of colour and texture that makes me think of pom-poms!
This one was also from February’s textured week, and was a combination of texture and striping tape. I’ve done similar looks before, but I really like the effect of this one and the colour combination looks great.
Number 7 on the list is yet another look from February’s texture week! It seems like I was really enjoying the textures while selecting the looks for today’s post. It’s just a simple textured gradient, but the colours look amazing together and the texture gives the gradient a really cool look.
Next was a look from March’s Digital Dozen week, when the theme was books. This is another of my absolute favourites for this year! This was based on Garth Nix’s Old Kingdom books. The flakies and the magical charter symbols work so well together!
I chose a second look from March’s Digital Dozen theme – right before that 3-month blogging hiatus. This one was based on The Invisible Man, which I was reading at the time of the DD theme. I liked both the blue gradient and the actual invisible man art on this one!
Last but not least, I have a look from July’s Digital Dozen Christmas in July theme. It was a simple splatter nail art, but I liked the effect a lot, especially with the silver base!
And that’s it for another year! Which of these looks was your favourite? Are there any specific types of nail art you’d like to see more of in the coming year? Let me know in the comments, and thanks for your support for Painted Fingertips over the past year!
